There are many parks around Melbourne to go and enjoy, however on a super sunny day they are usually crowded with people and a lot of kids having such a fun time, they need to scream and shout about it. This is definitely not a bad thing at all, just sometimes you want to read your book in peace and quiet. This is exactly the reason we enjoyed Ripponlea Estate (192 Hotham St, Elsternwick VIC 3185).
We did have to pay a $10 entry fee, which we thought was quite steep but I guess to preserve an area of this beauty, they need the funds to be able to do so. When we walked up the winding path through the gardens to the estate itself, we were more than happy to have paid for such a stunning place. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful. The vast open grass area in front of the house and the stunning mansion itself has the appearance of a manor you would see used in a movie representing the olden days.
Ripponlea Estate House

Ripponlea house itself has become a heritage-listed historic site since August 2011. It was built in 1868 for a wealthy Melbourne businessman and has been looked after ever since. There is a pool attached to the side of the house however we were advised not to take a dip as there is so much chlorine used that it previously stripped dye from a girls hair. Enough said!
We took a walk through the gardens and strolled past the lake over the bridge and around the back of the house. It is so picturesque. We found a spot under a giant palm tree and spent a few hours relaxing and reading. It was a perfect sunny Melbourne day.
Ripponlea have just announced that for the first time ever this summer there will be a barefoot cinema held on the grounds. It will be on for 2 weeks in February from 1st-16th. There will be food trucks, live music and a bar nearby to help make it an even better experience.
