Changkat in Bukit Bintang is one of the liveliest streets to go in Kuala Lumpur for food and drinks. It is the number one tourist area in Kuala Lumpur and holds host to lots of great bars and restaurants. I have this thing about tourist streets and believe that in certain countries, a lot of the time you pay way over the odds for average food and watered down cocktails. Changkat surprised me as it is not all like this. Yes you might be paying a higher price in comparison to many other parts of the city and outskirts due to the location however the food keeps up with the high Malaysian standards and you can find great places to dine around here without getting totally ripped off.

The drinks are all reasonably priced, the cocktails are in fact quite strong most of the time and the happy hours are fantastic. You will still find the staff out on the streets trying to draw you in to their establishment like in most Asian countries however this never really bothers me as they are happy enough to hear you say "No, thank you".

OPIUM KL (50, Changkat Bukit Bintang)

OPIUM was established not so long ago in July 2014 and has made a name for themselves as one of the best Asian restaurants in KL. The decor both outside and inside is really beautiful and makes sure you have a full sense of being in an Oriental restaurant. What makes OPIUM stand out is their ability to take every day Asian dishes and classic cocktails and put their own twist on them. The presentation of the cocktails is just gorgeous too.

Check out their menus in the below link to have your mouth watering and an instant desire to go there right now.

Ciccio Pasticcio (15, Changkat Bukit Bintang)

If I am ever in the mood for pizza, 9 times out of 10 we will end making the hour long drive to end up at Ciccio restaurant. Located at the top end of Changkat, you also find yourself not so immersed in the bustle so it can be a nice relaxing meal. Their wood fired pizza is among the best I have ever had never mind The staff are always so friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS:

* From the Appetisers list:

- FORMAGGI MISTI - Italian Cheese Platter

- BURRATA - Fresh Creamy Mozzarella from Puglia, Tomatoes, Rocket Salad and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

* From the Homemade Pasta list:

- RAVIOLI DI CARNE - Chicken Ravioli with Porcini Mushroom Sauce and Truffle Essence

* From the Pizza list:

- CICCIO - Tomato, Mozzarella, Bresaola, Mushrooms, Scamorza (replaced with Anchovies), Rocket and Truffle oil

PINCHOS Tapas Bar (18, Changkat Bukit Bintang)

One of my all time favourite foods is Tapas. Just knowing that you get to try lots of little things rather than one big plate of the same gets me all tingly inside. PINCHOS menu is extensive and exciting and it is very hard to refrain from ordering the lot. The servers are quite helpful and can advise whether they think you are ordering too little or too much which saves on food wastage. I believe 4-5 dishes for every 2 people is plenty.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS:

- PATATAS BRAVAS - Fried Potatoes with Spicy Tomato Sauce

- GAMBAS AL AJILLO - Sauteed Prawns with Garlic, Chilli and Olive Oil

- SETAS AL HORNO - Oven Baked Mushrooms with Thyme and Garlic

- QUESO MANCHEGO CON TOMATE - Spanish Sheep Cheese with Tomato Spread on Toast

- CROQUETAS DE PESCADO - Fish Croquettes

Opening hours - Daily from 5pm to 3am
