I have lived in Malaysia for over one year now and it absolutely astounds me the sheer abundance of food that is on offer. The saying 'Food is Life' had to have originated in this country. You can find everything from local street food stalls to trendy brunch spots, hawker centres to fine dining. I never tire of finding new and exciting cuisines hailing from all over the world - India, China, Japan, Korea, Italy, France, USA, Lebanon, Turkey, Australia etc. etc. etc. While there is a vast amount of choice of local, delicious food just a stones throw away at all times, sometimes I crave a good old classic pizza. I have tried and tested quite a few over the last 12 months but the below 3 are my ultimate winners and in my opinion the best pizza restaurants around.
1. Proof Pizza & Wine, Bangsar
I have Proof Pizza & Wine as number one on my list as not only do I believe this is the best pizza place in KL, it is the best pizza I have ever had. My first attempt to come here failed as I walked in hoping to get a table however they were completely booked out. I did not make the same mistake for my second try and booked in advance.
As soon as we walked through the door, we spotted the roaring wood-fire oven and got that feeling of excitement that a good meal was in store for us. Wood-fired is my favourite type of pizza, it just has an edge that normal pizza doesn't have.
We were seated upstairs on a long bench overlooking the downstairs part of the restaurant. The service was a tiny bit slow because they were so busy but that was totally forgivable as the food looked incredible. Our waiter was really friendly and took our order. The food was really quick to come out, taking just 10-15 minutes. While we waited we sipped on their beautiful Australia Shiraz wine.
The pizzas came out and they looked amazing - the cheese on the Umbrian Black Truffle pizza was perfectly melted and the crusts had that crispy appearance. We were so surprised by the Garden Veggie Pizza. This is a pizza made with no cheese which originally I would never have thought should be classed as a pizza, as what is pizza without cheese but the flavours blew my mind.
I cannot describe in a small amount of words just how good the pizzas were and I cannot wait to go back.
My recommendations:
Umbrian Black Truffle Pizza
Garden Veggie Ciccio Pizza
Address: 29, Jalan Riong, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 12:15 - 3pm, 6 - 10:30pm, closed Monday
2. Patty & Pie, Puchong
Luckily there is the perfect pizza place outside the city too. We live in Subang Jaya so it was great to find a pizza place we didn't have to go too far for. That place is Patty & Pie. They have a selection of burgers and pizzas as well as some pretty mouth-watering desserts. The pizzas are all wood-fired making them even better. All of their toppings are really good quality and they have the most amazing chilli oil to dip the crusts into.
My recommendations:
Half/half pizza - Anchovies/Figaro
Blue Cheese Fries
Dessert pizza

Address: 40, Jalan PJU 1/45, Aman Suria, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 12 - 3pm, 6 - 10pm, closed Monday
3. Ciccio, Changkat, Bukit Bintang, KL
I really like going to Changkat for dinner. It is a super touristy area but the food is always amazing and the bars have a great atmosphere. I have 3 favourite restaurants in Changkat, Bukit Bintang - Pinchos Tapas, Opium Asian Fusion and Italian restaurant Ciccio. The dining experience is consistently enjoyable. The staff are really lovely and the menu is extensive including pastas and pizzas. The pizzas here are not wood-fired but it doesn't matter as they are one of the best non wood-fired pizzas I have had.
Aside from the pizza their entrees are all super tasty. I love their Italian Cheese Platter and the brushcetta. Also their Extra Virgin Olive Oil is delicious.
My recommendations:
Formagi di misti (Italian Cheese Platter)
Diavolo pizza (we change the Salami for anchovies)
Bruschetta al pomodoro
Mojito
Address: 15, Changkat Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: Daily 5pm - 12am
