I have friends in London who always rave about Borough market so I put it on our list of to-do's when visiting for 2 days in June 2017. It was a Thursday morning and we got there at 9am however a lot of the traders were still setting up (we didn't realise it opened at 10am) so we went off and had breakfast at The Breakfast Club close by. We wished we didn't have breakfast once we started to see all of the fantastic food on offer throughout the market. The selection of fresh produce was endless. The mixture of smells from curries to pastries were sense tingling. The traders were all shouting about their product and offers in their strong cockney accents which was exactly the cliché I was expecting. There was such a lovely atmosphere here and you could tell they all really enjoyed their job which made the experience even better.
Borough Market has been in existence for the past thousand years and is London's oldest market. There are over a hundred trader's whose products range from spices, condiments, icecream, coffee, wine and street food to homewares and accessories, plants and flowers and even hair and beauty so there is something for everyone. A lot of the vendors are in fact the producers themselves so when you talk to them about their goods, you know they are speaking from years of experience and bundles of passion. The market has adapted to the times and has a strong offering of not only classic British food but worldwide specialties, as well as a large selection of vegan and vegetarian products.
It was quite a chilly summers morning so we got a lovely hot coffee at The Colombian Coffee stall right in the centre and we also found a hot jam donut vendor nearby so picked up a delicious donut as well. It is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, walking around talking to the traders and tasting their delicious goods.
