Malaysia - A tough hike up Broga Hill

We have been living in Malaysia for the best part of a year now. As Denver works every Saturday since we got here we usually went out for dinner and way too many drinks on a Saturday night and then spent the best part of Sunday being fragile and doing as little as possible. Since we have come back after our Christmas holidays at home, we have decided to use our time and energy more effectively and actually experience other parts of Malaysia rather than just Changkat in Bukit Bintang, the drinking spot of Kuala Lumpur. That being said we decided to look up hikes around the area and came across Broga Hill, an hours drive from us in Bukit Broga, Selangor.
We arrived at about 10.30am on a Saturday morning and there were quite a few cars parked already. I guess people were trying to get up and down before the real hot weather at midday. There is an entrance fee of 1RM per person and the car park is free.
NOTE: there is a spot a few hundred metres up the hill where you will find another entrance point and they will also charge you 1RM per person to pass through. Apparently there are two different land owners and they both charge separately. There is no sign posts to let you know this so don't do what we did and get up there with no money and have to go back down to get some.
Don't be fooled by the FREE sign you see at the below passage.

Broga Hill is only 400 metres high however the ascents will have you sweating and out of breath in no time. The trail up can be quite dangerous in places as it is very steep and can be slippy especially if it has rained the night or morning before your hike. Make sure you wear shoes with a good grip for this climb. There are ropes to help you out with the really tricky terrain nearer the top. Depending on your pace, it should take around an hour to reach the top and once up there you can immerse yourself in the incredible 360 degree views that surround you.

I found the downward trek much more difficult than the upward one as the ground was quite slippy and there were parts that felt like there was no way to get down. I actually had to slide down on my hunkers in some areas. It was challenging both up and down but I really enjoyed this hike, the exercise and the great views.
When you have finally navigated your way down then stop off at the drinks stall with the friendly lady and get a well deserved refreshing coconut for 5RM ($1.30).
